You might be a redneck if. . .

You have coils of black plastic tubing on your roof to heat your pool. I know, it is a little unsophisticated but it really works. We ran the water that came out of the pump through three lines 300 ft. each of black poly pipe on the roof. It heats the water up greatly between the inlet and the outlet. We have the water up to 79 Degrees from 60 that it was a couple days ago before the heater. It is cool because it doesn't cost any extra to heat the pool (after the initial cost of parts) since we run the pump to filter the water anyway.

We also got a new cover that is much better at keeping the heat in. It is also about a million times easier to get and keep on. The old one would blow off every time the wind blew at all. Getting lots of dirt in the pool.

We have had a lot of fun so far this year. We are looking forward to a fun swimming summer. You are all welcome to swim anytime.

well mom who doesn't do computers look at it and said why don't they just buy a heater....and i say kudos for you to engineer a consistant water heating system

Pool heaters are about two grand, then you pay for propane on top of that, but other than that..no reason!

Skybob said...

..$2,000 compared to $200 for the same result..why wouldn't we? Unless of course we cared what other people thought...you all know we don't give a damn.

Oh, and then the cost of propane or electricity etc. would probably eat us alive to keep it heated.

you guys are so smart! Very cost effective, and (Tony will love this)environmentally friendly!

Our whole house is actually pretty "environmentally friendly". I bet if you look at total consumption, we use less energy/ leave a smaller "footprint" than alot of these environmentalists that are shouting out about the off roaders living in "excess" burning fuel with no regard, leaving tracks in the desert, disturbing the mating habits of mice, running over helpless cactus......We have a 90+ super efficient furnace, 14 seer a/c, small house, we walk whenever we can, we don't water our lawn too much, we use high efficient bulbs etc. etc. etc.....of course it doesn't work that way. They need a cause so they can feel good about themselves, and show people that they are doing something, "put a notch up for us, we just closed down 190 thousand acres in southern utah"...

Here is one example, http://www.snopes.com/politics/business/gorehome.asp.
Al Gore's home uses 20 times the energy of the average U.S. household. Of course now, he is backstepping trying to use more effecient energy sources in his home...what a weenie.

water for lawns in the desert, don't get me started, i asked the high priest how many of them would let me tear up my lawn or put in rice and wheat, and they all said there was a city ordinance that wouldn't let me
